If you haven't started preparing your tax return yet you should probably get started. Depending on the information on your return you may or may not have everything you need already gathered together.
To make it easier for you to understand and compare your tax returns from different years I have put a spreadsheet on my website so that you can compare tax returns from different years. Make sure you look at the descriptions and not line numbers from your tax forms when filling out the spreadsheet, since different year forms have different line numbers.
The sheet titled 'sample' shows the form in use (it is the sample from my book) and the sheet titled 'tax comparison' is for you to fill out and use. You can copy and paste the columns to add more years.
Try to pay attention to what caused the numbers to change in different years, whether raises, job changes, life changes, or whatever, understanding the differences will help you to better understand your money.
Use the worksheet titled 'Tax Return Comparisons'.
